Warhammer
The Storm of Chaos: Preparing for the Storm : Games Workshop HQ has its very own Storm of Chaos to deal with at the moment. With so many army lists available for the campaign we have canvassed the views of several well known Warhammer and Warmaster generals to get their thoughts on these new armies.
The Storm of Chaos: Painting Chaos Warriors: Mark Bedford shows us how he painted his Chaos warriors using drybrushing and examines several other painting schemes for the fantastic miniatures.
The Art of Warhammer: Optimising your use of Magic in Warhammer: Jeff Leong continues his series on Warhammer tactics with a look at the Magic phase- an important part of the game. Disrupt your opponent's army and enhance your own, or simply blast him to bits. Whilst Magic is not necessarily game winning in itself, it can be a powerful ally.
Lord of the Rings
River Assault Rules: A rules supplement for The Lord of The Rings : The Lord of The Rings is a game that enables you to customise your own ideas for various situations and scenarios. Mat Ward shows what's possible with rules for playing in open water and includes a new scenario - Escape on The Water.
How to Build Your Own Boats: Chris Bone shows us how : Chris Bone is mad about boats, something he puts down to being from Portsmouth, though we think he may be part dolphin. He's a great fan of naval wargaming of all kinds, so it was no surprise to find out he'd been inspired by The Return of The King film to make two excellent boats…
A Tale of Good and Evil: Part 5 - Ranger Captain and river terrain: While Steve Cumiskey puts together a unique Ranger Captain, Adi Wood builds a river and some boats to use in the new scenario by Mat Ward - Escape on The Water.
She Hunts: Shelob: The offspring of Ungoliant, Shelob preys on any who are foolish enough to enter her domain. Be they good or evil, they all serve the same purpose: food. Here we give you painting and modelling advice for this brilliant new model and a brand new scenario - She Hunts.
War in Middle-earth - Mirkwood: Fighting battles in the land of Mirkwood: Following on from last month's introduction of the inhabitants of Mirkwood, Matt Ward returns with a look at the forest Mirkwood itself
Warhammer 40 000
Born To Be Green: George Dellapina's Speed Freek army: George Dellapina works at Warhammer World in Nottingham and is one of Games Workshop's resident scenery and painting maestros. His Orky Speed Freeks army is a real tour-de-force of cool conversions, general Orkiness and has scores of admirers! We thought you might want to have a closer look.
'Rules of Engagement': A new objective based scenario generation system for Warhammer 40,000: Bored of playing the Cleanse mission? If you are anything like us at White Dwarf this seems to be the default mission, especially if you're playing against new foes, and can quickly become quite predictable. Ryan Powell, Kurt Periolat and Chris Hutchings took up the challenge of looking for an alternative and have come up with a set of rules for generating a scenario on the day. Based around objectives, this system adds a great new dynamic to your games and really adds to the atmosphere of your battles.
To The Death: A Warhammer 40,000 battle report : This report sees a swarm of Tyranids chance upon a Mechanised Imperial Guard column. Using a 'Rules of Engagement' scenario from earlier in the issue both of the armies are heavily customised using biomorphs and Imperial Doctrines respectively. The results are very messy indeed!
Will of Iron: One man's quest to build a tournament army for Warhammer 40,000: Our resident antipodean Chaos Warmaster Christian Byrne is a long time player of Warhammer 40,000 but tended to steer away from tournaments - until recently. Join us as we follow his quest to build an Iron Warriors army, so he too might tread the Hall of Champions.
Specialist Games
Conflict on A Grand Scale: Taking gaming in the Warhammer world to a new level with Warmaster: Warhammer is a brilliant game. Whether you want to recreate a castle siege or stage a merchant caravan ambush the system is versatile enough to accommodate. But what if you want to play a game so big, your models just don't fit on the table? That's where Warmaster, with it's huge armies and strategic gameplay comes in. Rick Priestly explains.
